Job summary

Stafforce Ports is seeking experienced CNC Millers for a Middlesbrough site. You will set, program and operate CNC milling machines, interpreting engineering drawings and inspecting parts to tight tolerances.

The role offers modern engineering facilities with ongoing training and clear career progression into advanced 5-Axis machinery. We require a time-served apprenticeship or equivalent, and experience with Fanuc controls.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Experience setting and operating CNC milling machines, vertical or horizontal borers.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.

  • Flexible approach to shift working.

Responsibilities

  • Set and operate CNC machines per drawings and procedures.
  • Produce first-off components and support prove-out activities.
  • Program machines and prepare jaws, parallels, jigs and fixtures.
  • Run production batches following SOPs and routing.
  • Machine various materials including steels and alloys.
  • Interpret drawings using metric and imperial measurements.
  • Perform in-process inspections with measuring equipment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production Control, Inspection and Maintenance.
  • Load programs and record production activities on computer systems.
  • Support training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to quality, health & safety and environmental procedures.

Location: Middlesbrough

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + overtime available

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week, working shift patterns

The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced CNC Millers to join a growing manufacturing operation based in Middlesbrough.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern engineering environment producing high-precision components for the Aerospace, Defence, Energy and Chemical sectors. The successful candidates will benefit from ongoing training, development and genuine career progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set and operate CNC machines in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and company procedures.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the required quality standards.
  • Program machines and prepare jaws, parallels, jigs and fixtures for production runs.
  • Produce first-off components and support prove-out activities alongside Production Engineering.
  • Run production batches in line with standard operating procedures and routing instructions.
  • Machine a range of materials including alloy steels, nickel-based alloys, super alloys, stainless steels and duplex alloys.
  • Interpret engineering drawings using both metric and imperial measurements.
  • Carry out in-process inspections using a variety of measuring equipment.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production Control, Inspection and Maintenance departments.
  • Utilise computer systems to load programs and record production activities.
  • Support training and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all quality, health and safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
The Candidate
Essential Requirements
  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC milling machines, vertical borers or horizontal borers.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to shift working.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience using Fanuc control systems.
  • CNC programming experience.
  • Experience within Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Chemical or Precision Engineering sectors.
  • Experience with live tooling.
