Job summary

KFM Recruitment is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Setter/Operator in Barton-upon-Humber to join a busy engineering and manufacturing environment. You will set and operate CNC machines, producing precision components from engineering drawings with tight tolerances.

You'll work with CNC lathes and milling machines, with potential exposure to 5-axis machinery. A strong hands-on engineering background, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and safety are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Must have previous CNC milling and turning experience.
  • Experience setting and operating CNC machinery.
  • Able to read and work from engineering drawings.
  • Experience with tight tolerances and high quality standards.
  • Experience with health and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Program and set CNC machinery.
  • Operate CNC lathes and milling machines.
  • Read engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Set tools and check machine settings.
  • Produce first-off components and perform dimensional checks.
  • Measure components with precision inspection equipment.
  • Maintain high quality throughout production.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Machinist Setter/Operator to join a busy engineering and manufacturing environment in Barton-upon-Humber.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with experience in CNC milling and turning, looking for a hands‑on role working to high standards and tight tolerances.

The Role

You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC machinery, producing high-quality precision components from engineering drawings. The role will involve working with CNC lathes and milling machines, with the opportunity to gain experience on 5-axis machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Programming and setting CNC machinery
  • Operating CNC lathes and milling machines
  • Working from engineering drawings and specifications
  • Setting tools and checking machine settings
  • Producing first-off components and carrying out dimensional checks
  • Measuring components using precision inspection equipment
  • Maintaining high standards of quality throughout production
  • Loading and unloading CNC machinery as required
  • Supporting the wider engineering team with assembly and manufacturing tasks
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy working environment
  • Following all company health and safety procedures
  • Working effectively as part of a team to meet production requirements
Skills & Experience
  • Previous CNC milling and turning experience is essential
  • Experience setting and operating CNC machinery
  • Experience with Hurco machinery would be advantageous
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
  • Experience working to tight tolerances
  • CAM experience would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Strong hands-on engineering background
  • Good attention to detail and a quality-focused approach
  • Good understanding of health and safety
  • Able to plan and prioritise workload effectively
  • Reliable and able to work well as part of a team
  • Experience within automotive, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, or other precision/process manufacturing environments would be advantageous.
