These assignments support busy production teams producing high-quality precision components to drawing and specification.

The Role

Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor or Production Manager, you will set and operate a range of machinery, producing parts accurately, efficiently and to the required quality standards. The role suits a time-served or NVQ-qualified machinist who is confident working independently from technical drawings and takes pride in precise, right-first-time work.

Responsibilities for the CNC Machinist:
  • Set, operate and adjust CNC and conventional machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, selecting the right tooling, workholding and machining methods for each job.
  • Load, edit and optimise machine programs where required.
  • Carry out first-off and in-process inspections, maintaining accurate inspection records and production paperwork.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues, contributing to process improvements.
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance, keep the work area organised to 5S standards and work safely at all times.
Requirements for the CNC Machinist include:
  • Proven experience as a Machinist in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience setting and operating CNC and/or conventional milling and turning machines, with a working knowledge of control systems.
  • Strong ability to read technical drawings and work to tight tolerances.
  • Confidence using precision measuring equipment, with good attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Time-served engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 in Machining or equivalent experience.
  • Up to £20 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Temporary and contract assignments, working on-site.
  • Opportunities across Devon and Somerset.
  • Varied precision machining work that puts your setting and programming skills to good use.
