Job description

Job Title: Skilled Operative

Location: Hereford

Business Function: Production

Role Level: Operative

Status: Permanent

Role Purpose:

Join our dynamic steel fabrication team at VGC as a Skilled Operative. You will be responsible for operating both CNC and manual machinery safely and efficiently to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC and manual equipment to fabricate steelwork.
  • Work collaboratively within the Fabrication, Bundling & Overhead Line Stores area.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to risk assessments and work instructions.
  • Produce high-quality products in line with our Quality Management System.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help reduce waste.
  • Perform general duties to support all operations as required.

Essential Qualities & Experience:

  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude with a 'can do' approach.
  • Reliable and supportive of a continuous improvement culture.
  • Willingness to learn and embrace new ideas.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and be self-motivated.
  • Proficiency with air and electric hand tools, grinders, etc.
  • Ability to read drawings and complete relevant documentation.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety practices.

Desirable Qualities & Experience:

  • Experience in a steel fabrication environment.
  • Experience with CNC/manual machinery.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and telehandlers.
  • Computer literacy for reading stock sheets.

Based in Hereford remuneration for this role is GBP15 per hour, you will accrue holiday entitlement and be eligible to join the VGC pension scheme once certain criteria have been met.
