Job summary

ProTech Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist in Tring, Hertfordshire. The role covers programming, setting and operating CNC milling and turning machines to produce prototype and low-volume components with tight tolerances. A hands-on position in a small team, focusing on precision and quality.

The role offers training, stable hours, a clean workshop, 25 days holiday and a company pension. Hours are Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-1pm.

Qualifications

• Experience as CNC Machinist, CNC Miller, or CNC Turner in precision machining.
• Experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling and turning machines.
• Familiar with 3- and 4-axis milling and 2-axis lathes.
• Apprentice trained or 5+ years in a precision machining environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
• Proficient with precision measuring equipment.
• Willingness to learn and training on specific machines.

Responsibilities

• Programme, set and operate CNC milling machines (3- and 4-axis).
• Programme, set and operate CNC turning machines (2-axis lathes).
• Manufacture prototype and low-volume components to tight tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Inspect machined components using precision measuring equipment.
• Support new product development from concept to completion.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop components.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and adhere to health and safety.

CNC Machinist

Location: Tring, Hertfordshire

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-1pm

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 + Training + Stable Hours + Clean Workshop + 25 Days Holiday + Pension

We are seeking an experienced and skilled CNC Machinist to join a small, close-knit machine shop team. You will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC milling and turning machines to produce high-quality prototype and low-volume components. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced CNC Miller, CNC Turner or CNC Machinist who takes pride in precision engineering and enjoys working on one-off components and new product development.

Key Responsibilities as a CNC Machinist

• Programme, set and operate CNC milling machines, including 3 and 4 axis machines


• Programme, set and operate CNC turning machines, including 2 axis lathes


• Manufacture prototype and low-volume components to tight tolerances


• Work with a variety of materials, including steels and tungsten


• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications


• Work accurately to tight dimensional tolerances and quality requirements


• Inspect completed components using precision measuring equipment


• Carry out in-process and final inspection of machined components


• Support new product development (NPD) from initial concept through to completion


• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop and manufacture new components


• Identify and resolve machining and production issues


• Ensure machines, tooling and work areas are maintained to a high standard


• Work efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on quality rather than production volumeMaintain a clean, organised and safe working environment


• Follow all Health & Safety and quality procedures


• Support continuous improvement and contribute to the development of machining processes


• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the engineering and manufacturing teams

Skills & Experience as a CNC Machinist

• Previous experience as a CNC Machinist, CNC Miller, CNC Turner or similar precision machining role


• Experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling and/or turning machines


• Experience working with 3 and/or 4 axis CNC milling machines and/or 2 axis CNC lathes


• Apprentice trained and/or 5+ years' experience within a precision machining environment


• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings


• Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards


• Confident using precision measuring and inspection equipment


• Experience machining a range of materials, ideally including steels and/or tungsten


• Good understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling and cutting parameters


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality components


• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small engineering team


• Willingness to learn and undertake training on specific machines and programming systems
