The Role

As a CNC Machinist, you will operate a wide range of machines in specialist facilities, providing an excellent opportunity to develop new skills and support a critical sovereign capability in test & evaluation of defence munitions.

Day-to-day, you will conduct various explosive machining operations in the manufacture and development of production and trial components. You will provide expert knowledge of equipment, techniques, and materials.

You will also:

• Deliver production of high-precision explosive test samples and components to meet specifications
• Operate remotely controlled CNC machine tools safely and proficiently
• Maintain high standards in health and safety, security, and quality
• Participate in task review planning and route card generation
• Follow the 6S method: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety, by identifying obstacles and finding solutions

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, based fully on-site at Fort Halstead, with occasional travel to MoD Shoeburyness near Southend-on-Sea.

Essential experience:

• Proficiency in programming at least two operating systems used in sectioning and machining facilities
• Experience in sectioning and machining energetic materials
• Knowledge of environmental engineering
• Ability to read engineering drawings and challenge designs based on knowledge and requirements

Qualifications:

• Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, or at least three A levels including a relevant engineering discipline, or Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering
