We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It’s what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future.

We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!

Who we are
You might know us as the inventors of the bath bomb, but there’s more to this great-smelling, partly employee-owned, family-run company than pioneering cosmetics. We believe our business should put more back into the world than it takes and demonstrate that capitalism can be a force for good.

The Living Wage Foundation’s statement 'a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay' is one that we are proud to commit to in the UK. As an accredited Living Wage employer, we put our people first and fight cruel practices like animal testing, promote regeneration, and show that it is what’s inside that counts - whether that’s an ingredient in a product, or the minerals in a smartphone.

The team
The Research & Development team at Lush is a dynamic group with expertise in developing and manufacturing the products we’re known for. The Machine Shop is a growing part of this team, focusing on designing and machining tooling and equipment for various manufacturing needs. This includes vacuum form tooling, injection moulds, and other projects that help Lush’s manufacturing process by improving the efficiency, quality, and safety of how our products are made.

We are planning to expand the department and are currently exploring the acquisition of a Brother W1000xD2 high-speed 3-axis machine to complement our Mazak CV5-500 5-axis machining centre. The candidate will be running both of these machines alongside our current machinist. We are looking for someone who thrives in a problem-solving environment, has a can-do attitude, and can support the team in driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Please note: We may close this vacancy early if we receive an overwhelming response or our business requirements change.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program, operate, and maintain CNC equipment, including both 3-axis and 5-axis machines.
  • Select, maintain, and optimise cutting tools and tooling systems.
  • Provide input and advice on designs to improve manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with various Lush departments to understand and deliver engineering solutions that are both practical and cost-effective.
  • Support innovation projects by machining custom tooling and components to enhance Lush’s manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to expand your skills.
  • Attend meetings and complete assigned actions to support business goals.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • CNC Machining Expertise: Significant experience operating and programming CNC machines, ideally in both 3-axis and 5-axis environments, and who is capable of running a job from start to finish independently.
  • Fusion 360 CAD: Experience creating or modifying engineering models and drawings in Fusion 360 or similar software (training available).
  • Fusion 360 CAM: Experience programming toolpaths for CNC machines using Fusion 360 or similar software (training available).
  • Basic ISO G-code Knowledge: Basic understanding of G-code commands for CNC machining operations.
  • Tool Making and Mould Design: A background in the design / manufacture of injection mould tooling is advantageous.
  • Materials Knowledge: Experience with a variety of materials and selecting appropriate cutting tools and machining parameters.
  • Engineering Drawings: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving mindset with a logical approach to challenges.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively with stakeholders across departments.
  • Working with Other Departments: Ability to collaborate with various Lush departments to understand their needs, engineer cost-effective solutions to their problems, and handle interactions in a professional manner.
  • Training and Development: Ability to train others on the operation and use of equipment, and a willingness to develop new skills, including learning other manufacturing technologies (e.g., 3D printing, vacuum forming).
  • Planning and Organisation: Ability to prioritise tasks, plan workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Continuous Improvement: A passion for process optimisation and finding ways to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
  • Computer Applications: Proficient in using software such as Google Docs and MS Office.
  • *6 months’ full pay for parental leave (primary caregiver)
  • *Enhanced paternity leave
  • Day off for weekday birthdays
  • 50% discount on Lush products and spa treatments
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Discounted rail and bus season tickets
  • Employee assistance programme
  • *Financial childcare support on return to work
  • We’re 10% Employee Owned - all colleagues play a role in protecting our ethics, our independence, contributing ideas for the future and share in the rewards of success when the company is doing well.
  • Support groups, film nights, yoga, meditation sessions and much more
Since establishing in 1995 in Poole, Dorset, Lush has been driven by innovation and its ethics.
Creators of pioneering beauty products such as the fizzing bath bomb, shower jellies and solid shampoo bars, we place emphasis on fresh ingredients like organic fruits and vegetables, fight against animal testing and combat over-packaging by developing products that can be sold ‘naked’ to the customer without any packaging.

We currently operate in 52 countries with 928 global shops. Through our separate business divisions we invent, manufacture and sell our handmade products direct to our customers through our own shops and online. The fact that we make all our products by hand is something we are really rather proud of!

Lush is 10% Employee Owned since 2017 and our people are the heart and soul of our business.
