Job summary

WR Engineering is seeking an experienced 5-axis CNC Machinist to join its precision engineering team in Littlehampton. You will set, program, and operate 5-axis machines on development work and batch production, reading complex drawings with Mazak Mazatrol Smooth/Heidenhain controls.

We require a strong track record with 5-axis machines, Mazak/Heidenhain controls, and offline programming. The role offers a permanent, full-time position with relocation support and overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

  • A Level 3 machining qualification or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years' experience machining complex components.
  • Strong experience with 5-axis CNC machinery.
  • Experience with Mazak and/or Heidenhain controls.
  • Experience of offline programming would be advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of technical drawings and machining processes.
  • Good knowledge of precision measurement equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to confidently prove out new components and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating 5-axis CNC machines for development work and batch production.
  • Editing and creating programs at the machine using Mazak Mazatrol Smooth and/or Heidenhain controls.
  • Proving out new components and manufacturing processes, making adjustments where required.
  • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Carrying out in-process inspection using micrometres, callipers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Troubleshooting machining issues and making appropriate adjustments to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Carrying out routine machine maintenance and keeping the working area clean and organised.
  • Working closely with engineering teams to improve machining processes and product quality.

CNC Machinist

Location: Littlehampton

Salary: Up to £41,000 depending on experience

My client is an established precision engineering business supplying highly complex components into demanding sectors including aerospace, defence and motorsport.

Due to continued investment and growth, they are looking for an experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinist / Programmer to join their team.

Responsibilities
  • Setting and operating 5-axis CNC machines for both development work and batch production.
  • Editing and creating programs at the machine using Mazak Mazatrol Smooth and/or Heidenhain controls.
  • Proving out new components and manufacturing processes, making adjustments where required.
  • Working with complex cast components across both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Carrying out in-process inspection using micrometres, callipers, gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Troubleshooting machining issues and making appropriate adjustments to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Carrying out routine machine maintenance and keeping the working area clean and organised.

Skills and experience
  • A Level 3 machining qualification or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years' experience machining complex components.

What's on Offer
  • Up to £41,000, depending on experience
