Job summary

Start People Ltd. is seeking an experienced CNC Engineer to join a busy manufacturing site in Burnley. You will set, program and operate CNC machines to produce die-cast aluminium and zinc components, with emphasis on quality and efficiency.

The role requires reading drawings, selecting tooling and performing first-off inspections, while implementing improvements to tooling and processes. This is a hands-on, permanent position with a Monday–Thursday 6:00am–3:00pm schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience in CNC machining/engineering environment.
• Ability to read drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Strong inspection and measuring skills.
• Programming experience with Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain is a plus.
• Die-cast materials experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Set, operate and programme CNC machines (milling/turning).
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
• Select tooling, fixtures and work-holding equipment.
• Set tooling offsets, speeds and feeds.
• Carry out first-off and in-process inspections.
• Make program adjustments to improve quality and cycle times.
• Machine aluminium, zinc and other die-cast components.
• Identify and resolve machining and quality issues.
• Use precision measuring equipment (verniers, micrometers, gauges).
• Carry out basic machine checks and preventative maintenance.
• Support continuous improvement and lean activities.

CNC Engineer – Die Casting

Location: Burnley

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 6:00am–3:00pm

Salary: £35,000

We’re looking for an experienced CNC Engineer to join a busy manufacturing environment in Burnley, working with die-cast aluminium and zinc components.

This is a hands-on role covering CNC setting, operating and programming, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy and continuous improvement.

The Role

• Set, operate and programme CNC machines, including milling, turning and machining centres
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Select tooling, fixtures and work-holding equipment
• Set tooling offsets, speeds and feeds
• Carry out first-off and in-process inspections
• Make programme adjustments to improve quality, cycle times and tool life
• Machine aluminium, zinc and other die-cast components
• Identify and resolve machining, tooling and quality issues
• Use precision measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers and gauges
• Carry out basic machine checks and preventative maintenance
• Support continuous improvement, 5S and lean manufacturing activities

About You

You’ll ideally have previous experience in a CNC machining/engineering environment and be confident with setting and operating CNC machinery.

• Good knowledge of CNC machining and tooling
• Ability to read engineering drawings
• Experience working to tight tolerances
• Strong inspection and measuring skills
• Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilityHigh attention to detail and quality
• Experience with die-cast materials would be advantageous
• CNC programming experience (Fanuc, Siemens or Heidenhain) would be beneficial
