Job summary

Abcam, a Danaher operating company, is seeking a Cloud Platform Lead to drive the enterprise cloud strategy from Cambridge in a hybrid role. You will partner with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Product Engineering and SRE to deliver scalable, secure cloud capabilities using AWS as the primary provider, with Azure support.

You will lead IaC adoption (Terraform, CloudFormation), push GitOps, and build deployment pipelines while ensuring repeatable, secure infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in Cloud, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
• 2+ years' experience leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating AWS platforms in enterprise environments with cloud networking, connectivity, and identity management.

Responsibilities

• Deliver enhancements across networking, identity, connectivity, compute, storage, and container platforms.
• Implement governance, resilience, recoverability, and operational readiness requirements.
• Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Drive GitOps and automation-first practices while reducing manual processes.
• Ensure infrastructure provisioning is automated, repeatable, version-controlled, and secure.
• Build and maintain reusable modules, templates, and deployment pipelines.
• Establish engineering quality standards for infrastructure code.

The Cloud Platform Lead is responsible for the engineering, delivery, automation, and continual improvement of the enterprise cloud platform, with AWS as the primary cloud provider and Azure supporting specific business and technology requirements. Working closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Product Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), the Platform Technology Lead delivers cloud platform capabilities, infrastructure automation, self-service services, and operational improvements that enable faster, safer, and more reliable technology delivery. This position reports to the Global Reliability Manager and is part of the Digital Product Development located in Cambridge and will be a hybrid role to cover solution for Abcam Global Operations.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Requirements

• 5+ years' experience in Cloud, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
• 2+ years' experience leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating AWS platforms in enterprise environments with strong understanding of cloud networking, connectivity, and identity management.
• Experience supporting business-critical production platforms.
• AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications.

Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements

• Ability to travel – list specifics 10% travel, overnight, within territory or locations
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

• Microsoft Azure and Azure Landing Zones.
• Platform Engineering and SRE operating models.
