Job summary

Abcam, a Danaher operating company, seeks a Cloud Platform Lead to accelerate enterprise cloud delivery from Cambridge. You will collaborate across Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Product Engineering, and SRE to deliver automated, scalable cloud solutions.

This hybrid role supports Abcam Global Operations and reports to the Global Reliability Manager. Key responsibilities include advancing IaC adoption, building reusable deployment modules, and enforcing infrastructure quality

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Cloud, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
• 2+ years leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating AWS platforms in enterprise environments.
• AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver enhancements across networking, identity, connectivity, compute, storage and container platforms.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Drive GitOps and automation-first practices while reducing manual processes.
• Ensure infrastructure provisioning is automated, repeatable, version-controlled, and secure.
• Build and maintain reusable modules, templates, and deployment pipelines.
• Establish engineering quality standards for infrastructure code.

The Cloud Platform Lead is responsible for the engineering, delivery, automation, and continual improvement of the enterprise cloud platform, with AWS as the primary cloud provider and Azure supporting specific business and technology requirements.

Working closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Product Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), the Platform Technology Lead delivers cloud platform capabilities, infrastructure automation, self-service services, and operational improvements that enable faster, safer, and more reliable technology delivery.

This position reports to the Global Reliability Manager and is part of the Digital Product Development located in Cambridge and will be a hybrid role to cover solution for Abcam Global Operations.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To

• Deliver enhancements across networking, identity, connectivity, compute, storage, and container platforms. Implementing governance, resilience, recoverability, and operational readiness requirements.
• Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform and CloudFormation. Drive GitOps and automation-first practices while reducing manual processes.
• Ensure infrastructure provisioning is automated, repeatable, version-controlled, and secure.
• Build and maintain reusable modules, templates, and deployment pipelines.
• Establish engineering quality standards for infrastructure code.

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include

• 5+ years' experience in Cloud, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
• 2+ years' experience leading engineering teams or providing technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating AWS platforms in enterprise environments with strong understanding of cloud networking, connectivity, and identity management.
• Experience supporting business-critical production platforms.
• AWS and/or Kubernetes certifications.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements

• Ability to travel – list specifics 10% travel, overnight, within territory or locations
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Microsoft Azure and Azure Landing Zones.
• Platform Engineering and SRE operating models.
• GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
• Observability and monitoring platforms.
