Job Description
As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with our architectural and engineering teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our cloud-based systems. In this role, you will also provide technical mentorship and provide input into strategic direction for cloud initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement and support cloud infrastructure solutions using platforms such as Azure. This involves selecting appropriate services, configuring them to meet specific requirements, and ensuring they are integrated seamlessly with existing systems.
Automate deployment, scaling, and management: Use infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to maintain environment consistency, reduce manual errors, and speed up deployment processes.
Collaborate with development teams: Work closely with development and engineering teams to integrate cloud services into applications. This involves understanding the application requirements, providing guidance on best practices, and ensuring that the cloud infrastructure supports the application's needs.
Ensure the security and compliance of cloud infrastructure by aligning with the Cloud Adoption Framework and security governance to comply with relevant regulations and standards.
Incident management: Collaborate with incident response efforts for cloud infrastructure-related issues acting as technical SME. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents promptly and implement preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
Optimise cloud infrastructure: Continuously evaluate and optimize cloud infrastructure to improve performance, reduce costs, and enhance scalability. This involves analysing usage patterns, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing changes to achieve better resource utilization.
Disaster recovery planning: Support and manage disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of system failures or data loss, alongside the existing Operational Resilience Team. This includes validating backup and recovery processes, testing recovery procedures, and ensuring that critical data is protected.
Documentation and reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of cloud infrastructure, configurations, and processes. Assist with generating regular reports on cloud resource usage, performance metrics, and security compliance to keep stakeholders informed.
Mentorship and Training: Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and other team members on cloud infrastructure best practices, tools, and technologies. Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Perform daily Business-as-Usual (BAU) support activities, including incident resolution, troubleshooting, and resolution of system or application issues.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to support ongoing business operations and technology needs.
Ensure adherence with the Chaucer corporate values and CTG strategy that underpins our key business objectives.

Regulatory responsibilities

Skills & Competencies
Extensive knowledge of Azure Platform services including but not limited to Compute Infrastructure, Storage, Networking (vNet, vWan, Peering, NSG’s, ASG’s), Azure Policy, RBAC, Recovery Services
Extensive knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IAC) – Terraform, Azure DevOps
Extensive knowledge of scripting and automation skills and tools - Powershell, Terraform, Visual Studio Code
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft server Operating Systems and surrounding architecture
Deep knowledge of networking topologies and protocols
Capacity management and planning
Experience of Azure VMware solutions
Experience of Microsoft Entra ID in respect of interoperability and integration
Experience of Azure PaaS solutions such as LogicApps, PowerPlatform, Service Bus etc
Experience using Enterprise Monitoring and Backup platforms – e.g. LogicMonitor, Jetstream, Commvault.
Excellent communication skills at all levels within the organisation with the ability to translate requirements into a solution ensuring clear understanding amongst all parties.
Works effectively as an individual or a team player across geographical boundaries.
Active team player, self-starter, proactive and multitasker who can quickly adjust priorities.
Identifying gaps in the available information required to understand a problem or situation and devising means of remedying such gaps.
