Job summary

Next Ventures is seeking a hands-on Cloud Architect (Azure & GCP) to lead cloud transformation in a regulated banking environment. The role is hybrid in London with three days onsite at Canary Wharf or Liverpool Street, focusing on modernising core banking platforms and ensuring regulatory, operational, and security requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Define target architectures for cloud adoption and modernization.
• Develop Azure and GCP reference architectures, patterns, and standards.
• Align cloud capabilities with business, regulatory, and operational needs.
• Provide architectural leadership across transformation programs.
• Assess legacy apps and define migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor).
• Drive IaC adoption using Terraform and native tooling.
• Collaborate with security, risk, and platform teams to ensure secure-by-design solutions.

Job description

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong architecture and engineering experience across Azure and GCP.
• Experience designing enterprise-scale multi-cloud environments.
• Experience with Azure Landing Zones, AKS, App Services, Functions, API Management, Networking, Monitor, and Entra ID (Azure AD).
• Experience with GCP services including GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, VPC and Networking, IAM, and Logging & Monitoring.
• Experience with cloud-native patterns, microservices and API-led architectures, event-driven architectures, Kubernetes and containerisation, Terraform IaC, CI/CD and DevOps, and hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud integrations.
• Experience in regulated financial services environments.
• Experience with operational resilience, cloud security frameworks, data governance, EBA outsourcing considerations, and risk management and architecture governance.
• Desirable experience in investment banking, wholesale banking, or capital markets.
• Desirable experience with transaction monitoring, risk, finance, regulatory reporting, or data platforms.
• Desirable experience with cloud migration factory approaches.
• Desirable experience with Databricks and modern data platforms.
• Desirable experience with AI, analytics, and data engineering workloads.
• Desirable Azure or GCP architecture certifications.

We are hiring a hands‑on Cloud Architect (Azure & GCP) to support a major cloud transformation and application modernisation programme in a regulated banking environment. This is a hybrid role based in Canary Wharf or Liverpool Street, London, with 3 days onsite. We are open to a senior engineer stepping into an architect role or a junior architect comfortable delivering both engineering and architectural responsibilities. Our teams are still maturing, so they will rely heavily on your guidance as we define and implement Azure and GCP architectures, support legacy application migration, modernise core banking platforms, and ensure our cloud solutions meet regulatory, operational, and security requirements.
