Job description
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Adjust and tailor the scope of the investigation depending on the patient's symptoms and/or pathology found during the course of the investigation.
  • Discuss complex technical issues with medical and other staff. This will include advising the clinicians of any limitations that may affect the accuracy of the requested investigation and, where appropriate, recommend alternative diagnostic imaging techniques or modalities.
  • Clearly communicate the nature of, and reasons for, the investigation to the patient.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and communicate directly with other health professionals, in particular vascular surgeons, diagnostic information directly relevant to the patient's management.
  • Understand the potential hazards and bio-effects of Doppler Ultrasound and be aware of national and international safety guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical and scientific research, and medical trials.
  • Contribute towards the training of junior staff including trainees, scientists, technologists and other staff from both within the Trust and externally.
  • Assist with scheduling patient appointments. Adapting work plans in response to urgent requests or extended procedures such as those influencing operating theatre times.
  • Be actively involved in the development of departmental policies and procedures. Together with the Vascular Ultrasound team implement strategies that impact work both within and outside the department.
