West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit NMC Registered Adult Nurses who will work as a member of the Clinical Validation Team within the Integrated Emergency Operations Centre, working collaboratively with colleagues across the service to ensure an excellent level of service is provided to patients and will be providing support and specialist advice line for both call assessors and operational crews.
Successful applicants will be responsible for the safe clinical triage of 999 calls within the clinical queue utilising NHSP pathways triage tool/ PaCCs. The provision of advice and support to meet the identified needs of the patient and where required the onward referral to other services utilising the DoS or electronic transfer to services
Applicants must be registered with the NMC (Adult Nursing) and have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
Full & Part time positions are available, however, you must be able to work full rotating shift patterns for this post (all days of the week, days, nights, evenings, weekends / RAL). Minimum number of hours for part time is 22.5 hours per week
Training is completed on a full time basis for 4 weeks followed by mentoring shifts therefore you must be able to commit to this if applying for a part time post

Assess the clinical needs for the patient, ensuringutilisation of the triage tools (NHSP / PaCCs) to support critical thinking andclinical judgement.
Analysis and prioritisation of the verbal informationobtained
The selection, critical analysis and use of availableclinical and health resources to inform clinical decision making and identifypotential options for the patients.
Referral onto a range of other services via the DoS/electronic referral system.
Utilisationof AccuRx video consultation to support decision making during triage process.
Identify and take appropriate actions to address risks tothe patient, with appropriate onward referral to include safeguarding ifrequired.
Workindependently and contribute to the workstreams of the EOC to ensure thedelivery of a consistently high level of service. This will include:
Taking responsibility and being accountable formanaging own workload, risk assessment and management, acting withinprofessional codes and guidelines, and local policies, procedures andguidelines and referring appropriately to the clinical Navigator for advice andsupport.
Identifying issues which may negatively impact uponservice delivery and reporting these on to the clinical Navigator in a timelyfashion
Maintain contemporaneous records of the consultation andaction taken using the computer software and where necessary written records,in line with NMC / HCPC Standards of Proficiency and local policies, guidelinesand procedures
Remainfocused on the delivery of an excellent service within an unpredictable,diverse and challenging workload.
Support new and lesser-qualified staff whilst takingfull Clinical Responsibility.
Supportingother clinicians, or liaising with other specialised clinicians to provide themost appropriate outcome for the patient
Toenable patients to carry out self-care as appropriate through the effectivecommunication of evidence-based health care advice.
Tocarry out audit activities on an ongoing basis to ensure continuous developmentand improvement of a quality service in line with the clinical governanceagenda.

Utiliseadvanced listening, probing and facilitative skills across a diverse range ofcalls, some of which may be highly challenging due to emotive circumstances,communication difficulties and caller anxiety.
Utilisecomplex communication skills to negotiate and provide support to patients whomay be non-compliant with the recommended outcomes
Utilisetranslation services, communication aids and other resources, to barriers tocommunication and understanding
Effectively use a range of communication methods (e.g.telephone, email, electronic referral - CAD Portal and report writing) tofacilitate communication at all levels within and external to the Trust.
