Job overview

We are looking for a clinical support worker higher level with suitable theatre experience or willing to learn the role of a clinical support worker. The successful applicant will be working within the General Theatre & Obstetrics portfolio assisting and caring for patients undergoing surgery, and will have the opportunity to emergency theatre lists covering more specialities.

The role of a clinical support worker higher level within the theatre department is a specialised and extremely interesting and rewarding role. As a support worker you will be directly impacting on the quality of care we provide to patients undergoing a surgical procedure.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.

Band 2 requirements – willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.

Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

Care certificate

or

Short courses and completion of

competency workbook equivalent

to Level 3 in a range of patient and

and/or

Equivalent knowledge and

experience in a range of clinical

care duties equivalent to Level 3;

Qualifications 2
  • Must complete the care certificate within the 6 months probationary period and ‘on the job training’; instruction will be provided – this is an NHS entry level requirement.
Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication & active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles & methods of communication
  • Timekeeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems to update basic patient information from personal care and associated activity.
  • Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient / service user interactions and observations and metrics.
  • Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.
  • Ability to demonstrate the importance of holistic person-centred care & related procedures.
Experience
  • Will complete all training whilst in role to undertake basic personal care procedures for patients.
Qualifications Band 3
  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (https://www.enic-naric.net/)

  • Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3. - Theoretical knowledge - Experience of a range of care and related procedures - clinical observations - knowledge of relevant legislation
Experience
  • Experience of working in health or social care.
  • Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings.
