Job summary

The Interventional Radiology Department at the Denmark Hill site provides services to a broad range of specialties including Hepatobiliary, Haematology, Vascular, Renal, Gynaecology, Urology and Trauma.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and motivated radiographer to provide strong clinical skills, leadership and teaching support within our busy, forward-looking department.

As a specialist interventional radiographer, you will be expected to provide high-quality supervision and guidance to the large rotational radiographer cohort, to be proactive in the efficient day-to-day running of the department, and to deputise for the IR Superintendent in their absence.

This post would be ideal for an experienced IR radiographer looking to build on their clinical knowledge base and to develop their leadership skills in a friendly department which offer an interesting and varied case mix.

We are looking for a candidate with the confidence to train and mentor our rotational radiographer staff group, particularly in advanced imaging applications, as well as the organisational skills to expand the department's clinical audit programme and CPD offerings.

Come and join our welcoming and supportive IR team during an exciting time for the department, as we upgrade our facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, expand the portfolio of procedures we offer, and look to develop exciting opportunities for radiographer advanced practice over the next few years.

Main duties of the job

  • Actively lead in the training and development of radiographers, and student radiographers, assuming professional responsibility for their work.
  • Act as team leader, providing support and leadership for the other radiographers working within the department.
  • Ensure clinical governance protocols are complied with and corrective actions taken where required.
  • Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with other professionals to take into account changing demands on the imaging service due to emergencies, ensuring that the Trust imaging targets are consistently met.
  • Act as a source of knowledge on interventional radiology imaging matters to be consulted by other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Communicate complex information relating to procedures and radiation risks to staff, patients and carers and ensure informed consent for examinations.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives in response to the findings of audit and recent evidence by implementing recommendations and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices, ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
