Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Band 8a (Rehabilitation)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Band 8a to join our Rehabilitation services team. This roleis to provide physiotherapy clinical expertise to children and young people with acquired brain injury and neurodisability accessing inpatient neurorehabilitation, long term disability management placements and short breaks.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist is to providephysiotherapy clinical expertise to children and young people with acquiredbrain injury and neurodisabilityaccessing inpatient neurorehabilitation, long term disability managementplacements and short breaks. Our service aims to promote outcome focussedinterventions, safe therapy and care, function, and participation, of childrenand young people accessing home, school,and community life.

You will provide high quality advanced practical and theoreticalknowledge, evidence-based teaching, consultation, assessment, treatmentplanning and interventions. You will provide an expert level of physiotherapyleadership to the rehabilitation physiotherapy team, offering supervision andclinical support to drive quality and effectiveness of service delivery.

You will work collaboratively across the multi-disciplinary team,ensuring all children receive personalised, intensive, and high-qualityphysiotherapy interventions. You will work closely with the communityrehabilitation team to support flexible delivery of provision across inpatientand outpatient services. You will carry your own specialist caseload, and youwill lead on clinicalaudit, quality improvement and research. There will be an opportunity tofurther develop an area of physiotherapy clinical specialist expertise inchildrens rehabilitation, with the organisation offering CPD and trainingopportunities.

Job responsibilities

ClinicalResponsibilities

Bea physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of children and young peoplewith acquired brain injury and neurodisability.

Provideleadership to the physiotherapy team, providinginnovative, high quality and evidence-based physiotherapy interventions.

Useexpert physiotherapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills toprovide highly specialist support and advice to the paediatric physiotherapyteam in rehabilitation.

Developand lead on an identified area of physiotherapy clinical specialism.

Assessfor, plan, deliver and evaluate physiotherapy interventions for children withina multidisciplinary team setting.

Producefunctional and participation-based goals in collaboration with the child/youngperson, family, and MDT.

Leadon and undertake specialist postural assessments of children with highlycomplex needs e.g., multiple co-morbidities, neurodisabilities, throughstandardised and non-standardised assessments and clinical observations.

Supportimplementation of the organisations upper limb pathway and evidence basedupper limb rehabilitation interventions.

Offeradvanced knowledge and skills in the management of children with movementdisorders.

Leadon policy, standards, risk assessment and provision of aquatic therapy inrehabilitation.

Toassess for, and organise provision of, necessary therapy equipment and/ororthotics.

Assessfor and implement use of neuro technologywithin therapy sessions e.g., virtual reality, anti-gravitydevices.

Workcollaboratively with families to maximise engagement in therapy sessions,support management of their childs needs and promote confidence in meetingtheir childs needs.

Tosupport the implementation of respiratory physiotherapy with the support of therespiratory physiotherapist.

Keepappropriate and accurate intervention records which fulfil legal, professionaland the requirements of The Childrens Trust.

Contributeto child related reports as required and assist with the collation of these asrequired in a timely manner.

Provideclinical cover across the service during episodes of staff shortage/heavyworkload to ensure effective service delivery.

Undertakeother or additional duties that are within your skills and abilities, as theorganisation may reasonably require from time to time.

Communication

Communicateeffectively with children, families and colleagues using effective,professional, and appropriate strategies.

Demonstratea commitment to involvement and collaboration with children and families acrossthe service. This will include involving the child or young person, as well asparents and carers, in the decision-making process regarding physiotherapyneeds. This includes the need for discussion of challenging and emotivesubjects with families and children regarding long term needs and possibleoutcomes.

Lead Physiotherapy staff meetings and othermeetings when appropriate, as directed by the Head of Rehabilitation Therapies.

Leadon and manage formal complaints, in line with The Childrens Trust polices and contributeto the resolution of written complaints.

Managementof Self and Others

Participatein the overall day-to-day leadership and development of the physiotherapy service, to ensure an efficientand safe service for all.

Ensureall physiotherapy services meet NHS England service specifications andcontractual obligations.

Providesupervision and clinical support to the physiotherapy team in rehabilitationand students to meet individual and service needs.

Representthe therapy team on behalf of the Head of Rehabilitation Therapies, asrequested.

Participatein the annual Performance Development Review and monthly supervision sessions,as required by The Childrens Trust, both as appraiser and appraisee.

Advisethe Head of Rehabilitation Therapies regarding resources and equipment needs,including shortfalls.

Managetime effectively, prioritising, and delegating work, as required.

Organiseand deliver a physiotherapy CPD programme, offering training and developmentopportunities for the team.

Leadon talks, workshops, presentations andlectures at internal and external training sessions, conferences etc.

Beaware of a range of research methodologies in order to design, plan and conductevaluation and research projects to address issues arising from practice, andto critically evaluate the research of others.

Havethe ability to submit an abstract or poster to local or national conferenceswith support as needed.

Governance

Readand implement all policies, procedures, and risk assessments, pertinent toworking practice and keeps up to date with policy change as they occur.

Criticallyevaluate new intervention methods and implement where appropriate.

Activelyparticipate in clinical governance meetings as required.

Qualifications
  • Degree/Diploma Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Training and experience in leading aquatic therapy sessions
  • Continuous Professional Development above the regulatory body standards
  • Willing to undertake training if requested including neuro toxin injection training
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists
  • Post graduate Diploma or Masters or studied at that level
  • Evidence of successful completion of post-basic training or courses.
