Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner- Paediatric Ketogenic Nutrition

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a 1.0WTE Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP; Band 7) within theKetogenic diet team at Evelina London Children's Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). The team provides expert dietary therapy to children and young people with epilepsy and other neurological or metabolic conditions, using the ketogenic diet as a therapeutic tool.

This post will work across both inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting tertiary referrals and supporting the South East London region. The tACP will work as part of a highly specialist multidisciplinary team and once qualified line manage a 0.5 WTE Band 7 Dietitian. The postholder will be supported to apply and complete a 3-year MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Level 7 Apprenticeship), which combines academic education and clinical practice. Upon qualification, they will progress to a Band 8a ACP role.

On completion, the ACP will be expected to work autonomously across all four pillars of advanced practice as outlined in the BDA Advanced Practice Framework: Clinical Practice, Leadership and Management, Education, and Research.

Main duties of the job

Advanced clinical practice is a level of practice characterised by a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making. This is underpinned by a Master's level award that encompasses the four practice pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research/ Quality Improvement (QI), with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.

Advanced clinical practice involves the ability to manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families and carers. It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative shared solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes.

The post holder will be of an appropriate profession as defined in the person specification. The Trainee must complete the Masters programme in its entirety as well as successfully complete the programme within the set time frame in order to achieve an 8a.

About us

The post holders will join a wider paediatric dietetic team of 39 WTE dietitians and dietetic assistants who cover a wide range of specialties including inherited metabolic disease, diabetes, renal, gastroenterology, complex feeding clinic, allergy and respiratory.

The service is overseen by the Evelina London Lead Dietitian and the Paediatric team form part of the wider Guy's and St Thomas' dietetic department of over 100 dietitians, with a focus on innovation, quality, education, development and well-being.

Knowledge/Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in specialist practice or specialist studies appropriate to base profession.
