An exciting opportunity exists within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for a Clinical Specialist Orthotist and Clinical Lead. This role includes clinical mentorship, development of best practices, and involvement in business expansion within a leading private service. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload and contribute to both clinical services and team development.
We currently have an exciting opportunity tojoin our Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust clinical team as a clinicalspecialist Orthotist and as a clinical lead within Steeper Clinic privateservice.
As a clinical specialist Orthotist, you will havea wide-ranging clinical caseload including complex treatments such as compositeKAFOs, Scoliosis bracing and involvement in MDT clinics within Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS trust.
As a clinical lead in our private service, youwill be directly involved in business development of the private service in theNorth of England, expanding our existing services and engaging newreferrers .
Involvement in development of best practiceclinical guidelines, pathway development and research/audit work will alsofeature in the clinical specialist role, offering an excellent opportunity tofurther develop your clinical career. As a senior member of the clinical team,you will take an active role in the training and development of our graduateand apprentice Orthotists.

Responsibilities
To be involved in provision ofCranial Moulding Helmets, as part of Endoscopic Assisted Craniosynostosis Surgerywithin Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
To assist in Plagiocephaly privateclinic
Tocast, measure, fit and delivera well-fitting orthosis,and maintain the fit and mechanical integrity of the orthosiswhile meeting the clinical needs of the patient.
To work as part of themultidisciplinary team at each centre. Toact in a professional manner at all timesto other membersof the team, the patients and their families.
Toparticipate in the areas coveredby Clinical Governance, including clinicalaudit and evidence-based research.
Toparticipate in all activities as directed by your orthoticmanager or another member of the Company managementteam.
Tointeract with patients,assess their orthoticneeds and usingyour clinical skills meet theneeds of the patient, asking for advice and help from your colleagues asnecessary.
Carry a full patientcaseload covering all areas of orthotics and complexity of treatment.
Take accurate measuresof any patient requiring an orthosis.
Take and where possiblerectify a plastercast of the patient and produce a well-fitting orthosis with minimumremakes.
Align the orthosis to allow optimumgait for the patient and deliver the orthosiswithin the agreed contract time at the orthotic service centre.
Be aware of the Companys Qualitysystem, and your responsibilities containedtherein, and ensurethat all paperworkand job sheetsare filled out correctly legibly and promptly.
Ensure that all paperworkis up to date and facilitate in the resolution of any invoicing andpayment difficulties.
Ensure any stock removed from thestore is correctly booked out and allocatedto a job sheet. Help the technicians manufacture the orthosisby writing out clear and concise instructions and discussing any unusualrequests directly with them. Anychange from standard manufacturing techniques is subject to the risk assessmentprocess.
Ensure that your technicalknowledge is kept up to date by maintaining current awareness of the latest techniques and componentry, and by working together with the technicians toensure a full understanding of the manufacturing and repair processes.
To abide by the Companys healthand safety policy while working in the workshop, stores and plasterroom ensuring your own safetyand that of yourcolleagues.
Ensure that all clinical recordsare kept for every patient in the format recommended by the Profession and the orthoticservice centre. To maintainpatient confidentiality and adhere to the data protection act, ensuring thatall patient records are kept secure at all times.
Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, respecting the role that each team member has to play and taking thelead role in prescribing.
Take the lead in identifying areas that requireauditing and workingwith other members of the teamensure that the requirements of evidence-based practice and other clinicalgovernance issues are being met.
Beaware of the Contract styleoperated at each centre and ensure that yourworking practices conform to meet both the standards promoted by the Companyand the requirements of the contract.
Identify areas of possibleimprovement in the service provision and highlight those to your orthoticmanager. To be aware of the day to day running of theservice and be able to deputise for the Manager should that be required.
Undertake the supervision of P&O studentsand more juniormembers of staff and help and support them toachieve their potential as senior orthotists.
Beable, and willing,to lecture to undergraduate P&Ostudents and other healthcare professionals on theroles and responsibilities of an orthotist.
Be capable of undertaking a presentation of behalf of the Company.
