Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Therapy and Discharge Service team at the William Harvey Hospital.

The successful candidate will work alongside colleagues within the team and in collaboration with local organisations to provide a high-quality service to a variety of patients across Urgent, Emergency, and Acute Medicine, supporting a seamless transition from the acute setting.

The team comprises Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, and Discharge Managers who are vital in assessing therapy needs and discharge arrangements for patients admitted through our busy Emergency Department.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated therapist looking for a new challenge in helping to continually develop the service and who wants to develop their people management skills with support from the Clinical Lead Therapist and senior colleagues.

Please note that previous applicants need not apply.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the Clinical Lead in providing a high-quality therapy service to ensure safe, efficient, and effective discharge home with appropriate referrals into the community setting.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient patient flow through prioritising the caseload and supporting therapy colleagues in organising their caseload appropriately.
  • Assist in the day-to-day running of the therapy service and support the team in their development.
  • Provide support and professional development of junior staff.
Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 695,000 people.

Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: ‘People feel cared for, safe, respected, and confident that we are making a difference’.

We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called ‘We care’. It’s about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We’re looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families, and carers we care for every day.
