Join North London NHS Foundation Trust as a Clinical Specialist in the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service. In this diverse and dynamic role, you will provide trauma-informed assessments and work to deliver high-quality care to vulnerable individuals across central London Emergency Departments. This position offers a chance to contribute to a pioneering service aimed at improving mental health outcomes in the community.
The Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) is a dynamic, integrated assessment and liaison service for North London. It provides mental health assessments across three Emergency Departments within the North London Mental Health Trust (NLFT): The Royal Free Hospital, The Whittington Hospital, and University College London Hospital. The role also involves working shifts at the central MHCAS Hub at Highgate.
The MHCAS Hub accepts referrals via self-presentation, the London Ambulance Service, the Police, transfers from Emergency Departments for further assessment, and referrals from Crisis and Community Teams. The service aims to improve patient experience and outcomes and was awarded Excellence in Mental Health at the UK NHS Parliamentary Awards in 2022.
The role will primarily be based in one of the three Emergency Departments, with occasional rotation to the MHCAS Hub. Clinical Specialists will mainly work at their 'home' Emergency Department, though cross-cover may be required.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a service aiming to become a centre of excellence. We seek skilled and dynamic Clinical Specialists passionate about delivering outstanding patient care, committed to least restrictive practice, and acting in the best interest of patients. You will conduct trauma-informed psychosocial assessments and develop safe, collaborative care plans with service users, providing compassionate and trauma-informed care, especially when individuals are most vulnerable.
The service is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring stamina, resilience, and collaborative working with Trust services and hospital colleagues. As a central London service, you will encounter a diverse range of mental health presentations, so cultural sensitivity is essential.
North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) is dedicated to improving mental health care across North London, aligned with our Five-Year Strategy:
Applicants may be required to work at different locations within Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, or Islington, as deemed necessary by the Trust.
