Band 6 Clinical Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The North London Foundation Trust in our multidisciplinary Home Treatment Team (HTT) for Services for Ageing and Mental Health (SAMH).

The SAMH HTT works intensively with people with dementia and people over the age of 65 with an acute metal illnesses and age related frailty who present in mental health crisis. The team holds a shared caseload and covers the Borough's of Camden and Islington.

The service is looking for a Band 6 Clinical Specialist Nurse who is passionate about working with older people and those who have dementia presenting in a mental health crisis. The SAMH HTT is a fast paced service that operates over 7 days of the week (M-F 08:00 - 19:00, S/S & B/H 08:00 - 16:00).

The service has an intense interface with psychiatric liaison services and inpatient services, providing gatekeeping assessments authorising admissions as well as facilitating early discharges making this an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic nurse who wants to work in a well-established team and influence how care is delivered for this client group.

The post holder will work as an independent practitioner but within a supportive team to deliver care that enables service users to remain in their own homes during a period of mental ill health.

Clinical Responsibilities

Summary of Main Duties:

  • Conduct individual assessments and interventions for service users experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Provide specialist clinical care, including risk assessment, care planning, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Offer expertise in dementia care, contributing to multidisciplinary team discussions and developing new protocols.
  • Administer, review, and provide guidance on medication in consultation with medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with clinical governance and safeguarding policies.

Managerial Duties

  • Deputise for the Team Manager and assist in the day-to-day operational management of the crisis team.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support clinical and non-clinical staff, including students.
  • Lead on delivering dementia-related training within the team.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety policies and Trust standards.
  • Manage complaints and incidents in line with Trust policy.

Education, Training, And Development

  • Engage in professional development, supervision, and mandatory training.
  • Support workforce planning and service development initiatives.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and service evaluations to enhance care quality.

Communication And Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and liaise with external agencies.
  • Provide information, support, and education to service users, carers, and families.
  • Ensure effective documentation and reporting.
