About us

The research base for this post is in the UCL Division of Psychiatry, with a research link mainly to North London NHS Foundation Trust. The UCL Division of Psychiatry, located within the Faculty of Brain Sciences, is a world-renowned centre of excellence in mental health research. Our mission is to improve mental health through cutting-edge research and education. By leveraging insights from basic science, we address clinical problems with the aim of improving patient outcomes and public health. Moreover, we take pride in delivering innovative teaching that is directly relevant to clinical practice and informed by our research. This post is part of the Early Psychosis Mental Health Mission and will suit an excellent and motivated doctor up to CT3 level who is interested in developing as a clinical researcher and in working in an Early Intervention in Psychosis setting. The Early Intervention Mission is a national endeavour aimed enrolling 2000 participants nationwide into an early psychosis cohort.

About the role

Duties and responsibilities

The main purpose of the role is to recruit and assess cohort participants from the Early Intervention Services for psychosis in the North London NHS Foundation Trust (London Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey). Neighbouring Trusts may also become involved. Up to 0.4 FTE may be spent doing clinical work in these services with an honorary contract. The postholder's research work will be supervised by Professor Sonia Johnson, Professor of Social and Community Psychiatry at UCL, and they will work as part of the wider Early Psychosis Mental Health Mission.

Appointment details:

  • The role is offered in the range of £48,580-£75,038 per annum, including London Allowance, on the CL, JDSP, or StR scale, dependent on NHS contract and/or stage of clinical training.

  • There are two posts available and the appointments are available immediately and are funded for a year

  • Any offer of employment will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

About you

You will be medically registered with experience of working in psychiatry in a clinical setting, and have a good general understanding of research methods, including epidemiological studies and approached to measurement. Excellent teamwork, organisation and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to carry out clinical assessments, including of patients with psychosis. Experience of working in psychiatry in a clinical setting is desirable.
