About Us

The main focus of the Department of Neuroinflammation is research into multiple sclerosis (MS), employing a broad range of basic and clinical methods, including clinical therapeutic trials.

The Optimal Clinical Trials Platform for Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (OCTOPUS) is a multi-arm, multi-stage (MAMS) adaptive platform trial designed to accelerate the development of re-purposed or novel treatments aimed at slowing or halting disability progression. The trial is conducted across neuroscience sites in the UK, including the Queen Square MS Centre (QSMSC). Treatments tested will primarily target neuroprotection and remyelination mechanisms.

About The Role

We are seeking a Clinical Research Fellow to work on all clinical aspects of the OCTOPUS project, led by Professor Jeremy Chataway (UCL, Chief Investigator) and Professor Max Parmar (Director, MRC CTU, UCL). You will collaborate closely with Professor Chataway and the UCL MRC CTU team on trial operations. Responsibilities include contributing to the UK-wide recruitment strategy, pre-screening participants via the OCTOPUS expression of interest portal, recruiting and consenting patients at UCLH, conducting clinical assessments, and collaborating on data collection, processing, and interpretation.

You will coordinate blood collection and analysis, participate in broader data analysis activities, and contribute to ongoing and new research projects. There will be opportunities to be involved in both acute and long-term care of people with MS.

You may opt to enroll as a doctoral student and complete a PhD alongside employment. An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust (and other Trusts where applicable), requiring a DBS check.

The post is available from 01 August 2026, funded by OCTOPUS until 31 December 2028.

For reasonable adjustments or accessible application formats, contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team at ion.hradmin@ucl.ac.uk. For informal enquiries, contact Dr. Sean Apap Mangion at sean.apapmangion@nhs.net and Dr. Charles Wade at the same email.

You should understand neurological biology and research methodology, with evidence of research experience and clinical supervision capability. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational skills, independence, and initiative are essential.

This role qualifies for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. UCL welcomes international applications requiring visas.
