A leading NHS trust in England invites applications for a 1-year fixed-term position as an Autonomic Clinical Research Fellow. This role supports the Autonomic Unit, focusing on high-level qualifications in Autonomic Neurology while advancing clinical practices and patient care.
We are pleased to invite applications for a 1-year fixed-term position as an Autonomic Clinical Research Fellow. This role is designed for an autonomic fellow with neurology training who aspires to pursue a PhD in Autonomic Neurology. The successful candidate will support the nationally and internationally recognized Autonomic Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
The Autonomic Unit has pioneered the translation of autonomic research into clinical practice in the UK and worldwide. It is actively involved in national, European, and international autonomic and neurological societies, as well as in International Consensus Groups and Task Forces that develop guidelines and policies. Clinical Autonomic Scientists collaborate with clinicians to ensure that the clinical service is supported by a robust investigation and evidence base. They have developed and implemented new diagnostic tests for central and peripheral autonomic function, along with novel treatments. The team has also pioneered non-invasive techniques for investigating pathophysiological mechanisms in various autonomic disorders.
In the past five years, the team has expanded patient pathways, including autonomic assessment, rehabilitation, and immunotherapy for severe but treatable autonomic failure conditions such as autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy. They have established the first Autonomic adolescent service and a new diagnostic assessment for postganglionic sudomotor dysfunction. The expanding spectrum of patients requires an additional senior specialist in autonomic neurology to lead assessment and treatment of patients with autonomic failure.
