Job description

The Department of Research & Development (R&D) has an opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to work in the dedicated Clinical Research Facility (CRF) located at the Northwick Park Hospital Site in Harrow.

The successful candidate will be a GMC registered Medical Practitioner, with relevant and substantial hospital service experience, including a desire to gain experience managing clinical research patients and healthy participants. Research training will be provided.

The post holder will be responsible for:

1. Recruitment and consent of trial participants
2. Management of adverse events
3. Protocol review and development
4. Clinical oversight
5. Ensuring all trial conduct complies with GCP and applicable national regulatory standards
6. Clinical trial and CRF administrative management

The post will be part of a multidisciplinary team including nursing, allied health professionals, clinical research practitioners/coordinators, and administrative support. The post holder will report to Dr Ashley Whittington, Clinical Lead for the CRF and Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine.

The role will be tailored to the clinical experience and interests of the candidate. This is an ideal opportunity to publish independent research or strengthen future applications to specialty training.

Responsibilities include outpatient care of research patients, coordination of trial activities (e.g., obtaining informed consent, eligibility checks, randomization, investigations, sample handling, data collection, documentation), and supporting clinical research monitoring, audits, and regulatory inspections. The post involves liaising with clinical trial sponsors, CROs, and attending site visits.

Under supervision, the candidate will assist in setting up clinical trials, including protocol design, grant applications, regulatory submissions, and liaising with clinical trial units.
