2. Fixed term 6 months extendable to 12 months (Interventional Nephrology) for senior SpR grade with NHS experience or Post CCT in Renal medicine) Start 1.10.25
We are seeking to appoint a forward-thinking, dedicated and motivated clinical fellow in our Department of Renal medicine. The first one-year post (ST4+ level), based at the St Helier hospital site, starting date 01.08.25 for 12 months initially and extendable subject to satisfactory feedback and progression. This post would suit a candidate who is looking to gain experience in Renal Medicine. We are also seeking to appoint another fellow fixed term 6 months job extendable to 12 months with some basic experience in Interventional Nephrology for senior registrars with NHS experience or for those who have Post CCT in Renal medicine. This job is particularly suited for those in specialist training or for a Post CCT trainee looking to gain additional experience in interventional nephrology, clinical research, management or quality improvement; and would want to set up such a service in their respective hospital. These posts are also suited for candidates who are interested to take time off from the national training programme as part of Out of Programme [OOP] experience for additional sub-speciality skills such as renal transplantation medicine, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, multisystem vasculitis, autoimmune glomerular diseases and interventional nephrology.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to perform clinical duties and carry out responsibilities expected of ST4+ level doctors and will work as one of a team of 9 registrars. As the postholder, you will be expected to provide ST3+ on-call cover for the Renal Service in a 1 in 9 rotas. Those suitable candidates with CCT in Renal Medicine will be allowed to develop their subspecialty interest in Renal Medicine during this tenure. Adequate clinical management skills, research opportunities are also available to nurture individual clinical fellow career aspirations. The unit supports the clinical fellows in submitting abstracts to international and national conferences and has a very consistent and good track record.
In addition, the job includes on-call cover for the Renal Service on a 1 in 9 rota at a clinical fellow ST4+ level. A further extension to the job can be considered subject to good performance. The applicant will be assigned a renal consultant as an educational supervisor who will go over the job plan and be available for discussion in case of any problems. The applicant will be expected to have appraisals and training evidenced on the NHS e-portfolio. There are ample opportunities for quality improvement, management, leadership, research and audit projects within the department. These would be fully supported within the successful applicant's timetable.

We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital.
St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).
The Trust also plays an active role in the local healthcare economy. Surrey Downs Health and Care brings together our staff, CSH and the GP groups in Surrey Downs, and Surrey County Council in a partnership to improve care for local people. Also health and care teams from organisations (the London Borough of Sutton, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Sutton GP services, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and South West London & St George's Mental Health Trust) across Sutton that provide care to Sutton's older population are coming together to work as one team.
