Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an experienced pharmacy technician to join the North East & Yorkshire Pharmaceuticals Purchasing Consortium (NEYPPC) team. The role focuses on quality assurance, ensuring medicines and services meet highest standards while procuring cost-effective, compliant solutions.

Hybrid working between Leeds office and remote work with some travel. The successful candidate will support QA activities, provide expert contract advice, and liaise with clinicians

Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Significant management experience as a Specialist Pharmacy Technician within a complex organisation.
  • Hospital medicines management experience.
  • Understanding NHS policy (local/national) relevant to medicines.

Responsibilities

  • Support the quality assurance element of the NEYPPC.
  • Provide specialist advice on contracts and services to member organisations.
  • Collaborate with Lead Category Managers and Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Attend face-to-face meetings and travel as required outside the region.

Job Summary

Due to a promotion within the team, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacy professional with a passion for Quality Assurance and a drive for excellence to join us within the North East and Yorkshire Pharmaceutical Purchasing Consortium (NEYPPC) team, focused on medicines products and services.


This role is ideal for a highly motivated pharmacy technician to support the quality assurance element of the NEYPPC, and will involve ensuring that medicines and services are managed to maintain the highest standard of quality and safety, plus that these are purchased in an efficient cost effective manner, and that all standards, professional, statutory and operational are met.


This role is hybrid, with time split between our office in Leeds and remote working. The role involves face to face meetings and requires some travel outside of the region.

What You Will Bring To The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacy technician who is passionate about quality assurance. In conjunction with the Lead Category Managers, Category Procurement Specialists, and Quality Assurance Manager the successful candidate will provide specialist advice and clinical support on a range of contracts and services to suit the requirements of the NEYPPC member organisations in the unlicensed medicines category.


Key Attributes We Are Looking For Include


  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with evidence of continuing professional development.

  • Significant management experience as a Specialist Pharmacy Technician within a complex organisation

  • Hospital medicines management and pharmacy experience

  • Experience of managing change at an advanced level, medicines products and services, plus providing specialist technical advice to key stakeholders, including Consultants, Nurses, Pharmacists, and patients

  • Understanding and appreciation of local and national NHS policy (including medicines policies)

  • Understanding of underpinning medicines legislation i.e. Medicines Act and Misuse of Drugs Act, Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines (Duthie), Good Distribution and Manufacturing Practice, Medicines Guidance Note 14 etc.

  • Understanding of medicines regulations

  • Ability to undertake quality assessment of unlicensed medicines and suppliers, and completion of evaluation reports to support the contract recommendation, debrief and award process.

  • Knowledge of supply chain networks, particularly the medicines supply chain

  • Exceptional analytical skills in order to be able to investigate and advise on highly complex matters and to give appropriate advice and management strategies

  • Effective prioritisation skills and ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and able to work under own initiative
