Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist | Spire Dunedin, Reading | Private Hospital | Full time | Spire Dunedin have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our welcoming Oncology team, working full time hours on a permanent basis. Main duties of the job

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment
  • Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing SACT
  • Use advanced history taking and assessment skills to assess health, health related and nursing needs of patients, taking into consideration the needs of their families and carers. Identify and initiate appropriate steps for effective care.
  • Triage unwell SACT patients using UKONS triage assessment tool, advise re symptoms/prescribe medication, arrange investigations or hospital admission in accordance with consultant advice.
  • Provide out-of-hours support and triage for patients who develop acute treatment complications.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery
  • Practice intermediate life support to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate ongoing management of patients who develop treatment complications.
  • Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/treatments, contributing to the process of informed consent.
  • Management of direct patient care and to be responsible for a clinical caseload and safely administer SACT

Job responsibilities

Who we're looking for:

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registrationwith no restrictions or conditions.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working within oncology/haematology services and the administration of SACT
  • Hold an accredited SACT administration course
  • Hold an accredited chemotherapy and counselling course certificate
  • Competency in the UKONS 24 Hour triage Tool
  • Post registration course within cancer care
  • Excellent communication, organisational & IT skills, with the ability to organise work around competing demands on time
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Contract Type:Permanent, Full time
