The Clinical Nurse Specialist works in collaboration with medical teams within a specific client group, practising to clearly defined protocols, and developing their scope of professional practice to meet the needs of the service.
The post holder will be expected to take up the Key Worker's role for patients undergoing plastic oncology surgery, providing specialist education, training, and information for patients and their carers, as well as other healthcare professionals. The post holder will contribute to the development of the cancer specialist nurse service and communicate with colleagues at referring centres and units to ensure a streamlined care pathway while providing holistic care to patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
We care for all surgical oncology patients pre and post-operatively within the Christie, working closely with the MDT to ensure safe recovery and discharge.

Job responsibilities
CLINICAL
- Perform a comprehensive Key Worker role, assessing patient needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating care to ensure continuity and improve satisfaction.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and referring units to ensure effective information transfer and continuity of care.
- Maintain advanced clinical skills and knowledge of diagnosis and treatment options.
- Assess postoperative plastic patients physically and psychologically in the Nurse-led plastics clinic.
- Develop and carry out individual treatment plans, contribute to care prescriptions, and perform clinical tasks.
- Maintain accurate patient records and report findings in line with governance standards.

Qualifications
- RGN
- Degree in Nursing/Health-related subject or equivalent experience
- Post-registration teaching & assessing qualification
