Critical Care Services in UHCW NHS Trust

UHCW NHS trust is a level one Major Trauma Centre and a tertiary neurosurgical and cardiothoracic center. We offer a wide range of services to a population of over one million people, treating complex conditions and diseases. Our nurses gain diverse experience in pioneering teams.

We have 30 critical care beds on the General Critical Care Unit and 22 beds on the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit. Our services provide broad experience in caring for critically ill adults in an innovative and challenging environment. We support clinical practice advancement through our Clinical Nurse Training and Development team.

We are seeking an experienced nurse to work within our General Critical Care and Cardiothoracic Critical Care Units as a band 7 clinical leader. You will collaborate with the critical care teams to meet patient needs and lead service delivery, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Unit Details
  • The Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit supports patients requiring cardiology intervention, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, and thoracic trauma.
  • Experience will include leading and supporting staff caring for Trauma, Neurosurgery, complex Medical and Surgical patients, including Haematology, GI Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Renal Medicine/Transplant, and Head and Neck Surgery.
Responsibilities
  • Accountable for actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct, contributing to corporate objectives, and acting within guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain high-quality service through excellent communication skills, managing and resolving unexpected events.
  • Coordinate care for critically ill patients, ensuring effective management through the critical care pathway.
  • Advise staff on policies and ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Identify and resolve complex clinical and non-clinical issues, monitor outcomes.
  • Ensure optimal patient management, including monitoring, equipment management, and clinical roles.
  • Support treatment plans involving fluid resuscitation, oxygen therapy, and investigations.
