About your new role

We are currently recruiting for a number of lawyers at Associate level and above (3 YR PQE & above) to join our Healthcare team. The roles can be based in our Birmingham & Cardiff offices.

Our Healthcare team is a vibrant specialist department. We provide advice on all aspects of healthcare law, including clinical negligence, patient safety, consent to treatment, human rights, child law, and mental health. The ethos of the team is to work hard for our clients to secure the right outcomes. This work is challenging and fast-moving, offering an interesting and rewarding environment.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated to develop their own and the team's practices. We offer a supportive working environment.

Main duties and responsibilities
  1. Manage defendant clinical negligence claims as a Solicitor (or equivalent).
  2. Specialise in acting on behalf of NHS Litigation Authority and NHS Trusts, protecting their interests.
  3. Manage a caseload of litigated and pre-litigated clinical negligence cases.
  4. Conduct investigations to conclude or refute claims.
  5. Liaise with claimants, solicitors, clients, counsel, experts, etc.
  6. Achieve financial and chargeable targets.
  7. Demonstrate strong advocacy skills and flexibility in handling civil claims.
  8. Control case diaries, key dates, and actions.
  9. Draft documents including SLA reports and pleadings.
  10. Perform billing duties.
  11. Maintain standards of client care per SLA and team guidelines.
  12. Complete Client MI procedures.
  13. Comply with relevant rules, policies, and procedures.
  14. Stay updated with legal developments.
  15. Contribute to profile-raising and business development initiatives.

About You

You will be a qualified solicitor with a flexible approach and the ability to adapt to various tasks. You should have:

  • Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent).
  • Experience defending high-value and complex litigated and pre-litigated clinical negligence claims, preferably involving NHS or private healthcare sectors.
  • Demonstrable healthcare sector experience.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of CPR.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze evidence rigorously.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and targets.
  • Adherence to client protocols.
  • Teamwork and initiative.
  • Flexible approach.
  • Experience training, supervising, and developing junior team members.
