Qualifications

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board supports flexible working.

There is a temporary top-up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top-up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum. This will be in place until the 2025/26 pay uplift is confirmed.

Job Overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is committed to patient safety and clinical effectiveness. We have an exciting opportunity for a Midwife with significant experience and a passion for improvement in care to develop leadership within the governance and risk agenda. You will join a supportive team focused on patient safety, providing visible senior leadership and direction regarding governance. The post involves working with the Head of Midwifery, the Senior Midwifery team, clinical leads, and the wider organization, ensuring seamless clinical governance pathways and high standards of care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the governance and risk agenda within maternity services, ensuring high standards of care, patient experience, and clinical effectiveness. They will oversee patient safety incidents and promote an honest and just culture with learning from incidents.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current Midwifery registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Masters Degree or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of appropriate post-registration CPD

Desirable criteria

  • IQT Bronze / Improvement Cymru - Improvement Basics
  • Training in Root Cause Analysis / Serious Incident Investigation
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience coordinating quality and safety functions in healthcare
  • Experience leading clinical audits
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience analyzing governance information to inform solutions

Desirable criteria

  • Line management experience
  • Implementing quality improvement methodologies
  • Report writing and delivering presentations
Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria

  • Understanding of NHS structure, regulation, and processes
  • Understanding of standard setting, assessment, and assurance in the NHS
  • Knowledge of legal frameworks related to risk management and governance

Desirable criteria

  • Welsh language skills levels 1-5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing
