NHS Scotland is seeking a Band 8a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist to join the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service in the Tayside region, primarily based at the Strathmartine Centre, Dundee, with travel across Tayside expected.

The post involves psychological assessment, treatment and consultation for adults with learning disabilities, carers and families, across forensic, community, outpatient and day services, plus opportunities for supervision and training.

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical/Forensic Psychology or near completion by 2026.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Health Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Chartered status with the British Psychological Society.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological assessment, treatment and consultation to adults with learning disabilities, carers and families.
  • Work across forensic, community, outpatient and day service settings for individual and group interventions.
  • Take lead in assessment and formulation of complex cases within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams.
  • Provide consultation and supervision to other staff and contribute to an established training agenda.

Tayside Psychological Therapies Service is looking to appoint to a Band 8a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist post for 1.0 wte for the Tayside Area. The post will currently be mainly based within Learning Disabilities Psychological Therapies Service at the Strathmartine Centre, Dundee but travel across Tayside area is an expected aspect of the role. (Base currently under review and may be subject to change). The applicant should be committed to delivering high quality and effective psychological services for adults with a learning disability.
The post holder will provide psychological assessment, treatment and consultation to adults with learning disabilities, carers and families in the Tayside Region. The postholder will work within forensic, community, outpatient and day service settings for delivery of individual and group interventions. The post requires the ability to take a lead role in assessment and the formulation of complex cases within the context of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working. The postholder will have regular access to clinical supervision and peer support. The Learning Disability Service is a friendly and supportive work environment. The Learning Disability Psychology section interests include: Trauma, Parenting, Behaviour Family Therapy and Dementia.
The postholder will be expected to provide consultation and supervision to other staff members and multi-disciplinary colleagues. The postholder will have opportunity to contribute to an established training agenda. The postholder will have completed post-graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical/Forensic Psychology/or be due to complete in 2026. The postholder will require to eligible for registration with the Health Professions Council and for Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society.
