Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking a Senior Middle Grade Orthopaedic specialist to cover a broad range of elective and emergency procedures. The appointee will join a team serving Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals, sharing sessions and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide Senior Middle Grade cover for orthopaedics duties including on-call rota.

• Provide inpatients, day case and outpatients care for elective and emergency orthopaedic surgery.
• Maintain ongoing clinical audit and implement required actions.

Job description

The postholder will be one of a team of 14 Middle Grades with sessions at both Ashford and St. Peter'sHospitals., The main duties and responsibilities of the appointee will be:

• To provide Senior Middle Grade cover for all orthopaedics duties as detailed below including participating in the on-call rota.
• To work with the existing orthopaedic surgeons across both Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals to provide an efficient and effective orthopaedic service.
• To provide inpatients, day case and outpatients care for the patients requiring elective and emergency orthopaedic surgery, in accordance with the Trust contractual obligations.
• To adopt a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your care and in partnership with other colleagues working in the speciality for the proper function of the department.
• The Clinical Fellow would undertake to ensure that clinical audit was an ongoing programme and that agreed actions required as indicated from audit were implemented., To work with the orthopaedic surgeons across both Ashford and St. Peters Hospitals to provide an efficient and effective orthopaedic service.
• To provide inpatients, day case and outpatients care for the patients requiring elective emergency orthopaedic surgery, in accordance with the Trust contractual obligations.
• To adopt a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and in partnership with other colleagues working in the speciality for the proper function of the department to which he/she is appointed.
• To ensure that clinical audit was an ongoing programme and that agreed actions required as indicated from audit were implemented. Previous experience in Middle Grade Orthopaedics.
• Significant clinical experience (SPR level or above) including Orthopaedic Surgery and Outpatients.
• Evidence of continuing Medical Education.
• Capable of Independent operating, Must be able to demonstrate, in relation to people who use Trust and other related services
• Knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights.
• Able to communicate effectively with them and with other staff to ensure that their care, treatment and support are not compromised.
• You have a good understanding of their communication, physical & emotional needs can identify their individual needs and preferences, their changing needs and recognise and promote their independence.

• Formal training in teaching The Trust was formed by the merger of the two hospitals in 1998. The Ashford/St. Peters Trust is the largest non-teaching Trust in the region and provides a full range of acute hospitals services. All surgical and trauma emergencies are admitted into St. Peter's Accident and Emergency Department. There is a 9 bedded ITU service on the St. Peter's site., Ashford and St. Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest provider of acute hospital services to Surrey residents, serving a population of 410,00 people and employing approximately 4,800 staff.
• £67,325 to £76,582 a year per annum, plus additional rota payments and £149 HCAS
