Job description

The Colchester Urology Fellowship Programme offers mid-grade training posts at Specialist Registrar and post-SPR levels. The programme includes seven fellows in rotation with one Specialty Trainee on the East of England Rotation. Many previous post holders have progressed to specialised fellowships or Consultant Urologist positions via CESR (Article 14).

The Urology unit comprises eight consultants with diverse sub-specialty interests, providing SPR-level mentoring. Three consultants focus on oncology and perform laparoscopic and robotic surgeries such as radical prostatectomy and nephrectomy. Another consultant specializes in robotic and laparoscopic nephrectomy and pyeloplasty.

Post Holder Responsibilities
  • Perform core and specialist urological surgical procedures on own operating lists for patients under Consultant Urological Surgeons.
  • Conduct outpatient clinics weekly at Colchester Hospital or peripheral sites.
  • Carry out day case surgeries and diagnostic procedures like flexible cystoscopy.
  • Provide educational supervision to junior medical staff.
  • Participate in clinical audits and governance initiatives.
  • Contribute to scientific and clinical publications.
  • Attend weekly MDT meetings.
  • Take on managerial responsibilities where appropriate.
  • Form a 1 in 8 on-call rota with prospective cover.
