The NHS is offering a Clinical Fellowship in Hepatology at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, beginning February 2025. This is an exceptional opportunity to engage in comprehensive clinical training, working within a leading specialist team focused on liver disease management, including acute liver failure and transplantation.
Applicationsare invited for a Clinical Fellowship available from February 2025 for 12months (subject to satisfactory progression) in the Department of Hepatologyat St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds.
Thisis an exciting opportunity to train in one of the leading UK Hepatologycentres and contribute to the Leeds Liver Units international reputation fortransplantation.
Thesuccessful candidate will gain experience in all aspects of Hepatologyincluding the assessment of patients with acute and sub-acute liver failure,assessment of patients for treatments such as liver transplantation andTIPSS, patients with a wide variety of complex general Hepatologicalconditions and with viral hepatitis. This is a clinical post and the fellowwill join the out of hours rota and have the opportunity to undertake auditand contribute to ongoing projects in the department.
TheDepartment is affiliated to the University of Leeds with the MRC fundedCentre for Bioinformatics, the Leeds Institute of Data Analysis and the NIHRfunded Diagnostic Evaluation Co-operative.
Candidatesshould hold full license to practice with the UK General Medical.

Thesuccessful candidate will contribute to the out of hours rota (1 in 9;resident) on the same basis as other trainees in the department, at registrarlevel responsibility. This is a single tier rota and appropriate experience inmedical specialty training is highly desirable.
Thesuccessful applicant will contribute to the inpatient service delivering careof Liver Transplant and Hepatology patients. They will contribute to the LiverUnits medical out of hours rota. There will also be the opportunity toparticipate in specialty clinics such as viral hepatitis, immune hepatology,primary liver cancer and portal hypertension. The appointee will alsocontribute to the care of patients in the Intensive Care Unit post livertransplant or because of acute liver failure. The Department is also expandingits Community Hepatology service and the appointee would also contribute tothis service.
Other opportunities for learning include a weeklyradiology meeting, a weekly pathology case conference, the transplant MDTmeeting and a weekly training meeting with a wide variety of topics coveredover the year.
TheDepartment of Hepatology forms part of the Leeds Liver Unit and deliversLevel 2 and 3 liver disease services across a large population within theNorth of England, including liver transplantation, acute liver failure andcomplex Hepatology services, viralhepatitis services and a broad range of Hepatology outpatient services.

PrimaryMedical Degree
Completionof Foundation Training or equivalent
AdvancedLife Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (asrequired to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
Beeligible for full registration with, and hold a current Licence to Practisefrom, the GMC at intended start date
MDU/MPSor equivalent
Allapplicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequateto enable effective communication about medical topics with patients andcolleagues demonstrated by one of the following:
That applicants have undertakenundergraduate medical training in English;
or
academic International English LanguageTesting System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least 7.5 in each domain(speaking, listening, reading, writing),with an overall score of at least 7.5,to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time ofapplication
If applicants believe they have adequate communicationskills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must providealternative supporting evidence of language skills
