A leading Trust is offering an appointment for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Stroke Medicine at Leeds General Infirmary. The role involves working on the stroke unit, managing care for stroke patients, and participating in clinical training and governance. Candidates should have GMC registration, NHS experience at IMT3 level, and advanced life support qualifications.
This is an appointment for a Senior Clinical Fellow Trust Grade Doctor in Stroke Medicine. This post is available to start on 06/08/25 with an expected duration of 1 year. The holder of this post is expected to be able to be able to work at the level of Internal Medicine Year 3 (IMT3)
The post involves working on the stroke unit at Leeds General infirmary, participating in ward rounds, reviewing hyperacute and acute patients, and patients undergoing stroke rehab. The post holder would also be expected to participate in TIA clinics and stroke follow up clinics, as well as assisting in reviewing referrals made to the stroke department. The post holder will be expected to participate in an on-call rota which includes twilight shifts and weekend working, but no nights. The on-call work would involve reviewing stroke patients as well as a general medical component reviewing patients accepted for admission to the relevant medical specialities.
Main duties of the job
There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in teaching and training, both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level and to contribute to clinical governance. The successful candidate would also be expected to participate in departmental audit and quality improvement work. Self directed training time is included in the rota for this post, and the doctor will also be invited to join the education programme within the department.

Applicants should be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice in the UK. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 months experience of working in the NHS and a minimum of 6 months at IMT3 level or higher. Ability to work full time is desirable. Applicants should have prior experience of working within a stroke department. Applicants need to have Valid Advanced Life Support qualifications which are in date and not expired. It is expected that applicants should have a minimum of Part 1 MRCP, and full MRCP is desirable.
About us
This Trust is one of the largest in the UK, providing high quality acute hospital services for the population of Leeds and the surrounding area and acts as a regional centre for a number of specialist services such as cancer, cardiac and neurosurgery, treating about 1.5 million people per year.
Leeds General Infirmary houses a 10-bedded Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) and a further 22 bedded Acute Stroke Unit (ASU), both located on ward L21. The service offers thrombolysis treatment as well as mechanical thrombectomy to the West Yorkshire region. Patients are looked after by a team of Stroke and Neurology consultants with a broad range of experience and specialist interests. A TIA clinic is operated on a daily basis, as well as follow up clinics for discharged patients.

The post holder will work alongside the team of Consultants, other Resident doctors, Physician associates, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, the multidisciplinary team and research faculty. Examples of duties include:
Participating in the day-to-day functioning of stroke, including Consultant ward rounds, reviews of patients and clinical ward tasks
Participating in TIA clinics and Follow-up clinics.
On call component consisting of twilight and weekend working, assessing stroke patients as well as a general medical component reviewing patients accepted for admission to the relevant medical specialities.
Promoting high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development relevant to scope of practice.

TEACHING
The Trust as a Teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds School of Medicine for the Undergraduate teaching and both the Stroke and Neurology departments host undergraduate students on rotational placements. There are opportunities available for the post holder to be involved in teaching and training both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
