Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the fast-paced and dynamic General Surgery Team. The aim of the role is to give the chosen candidate experience and exposure to this surgical specialty, with a view to build their experiences as a junior doctor at the level for FY2/Core Trainee.

The post holder will be compliant with the Trust mandatory training modules and have a dedicated educational supervisor in addition to a named clinical supervisor during their rotation. The candidate takes part in on-call Rota as SHO in the specialty and would be following the rota set for the service delivery, incorporating training needs and progression.

The role is a fixed term 6-month post with potential to extend depending on the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to this growing population of patients and raise departmental profiles through teaching and education. The aim of the Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust Surgical Division is to become a world leader in the field of surgical management through innovation, evidence based safe and effective patient care and the successful applicant must therefore have the pre-requisite procedural and leadership skills as well as teamwork, drive, and ambition to succeed in achieving these goals. We have a busy emergency surgery service.

The appointee will:

- Focus on the operative and non-operative management of elective and non-elective patients during their inpatient stay, operating theatre, as well as in the outpatient department.
- Participate in the resident first on-call rota to every assigned specialty during their contract.
- Be encouraged to attend all teaching events and participate in clinical audits.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.
