Weare recruiting to the Post of Clinical Fellow in Immunology at the RegionalSpecialist Immunology and Allergy unit. This post is suitable for a candidateat an early stage of their medical career. However, some previous experience inthe specialty is advantageous.
Thesuccessful candidate will gain further exposure and training in all aspects ofAdult Immunology and Allergy clinical practice. Emphasis will be given tomanagement of patients with systemic autoinflammatory syndromes. The candidatewill also be given an opportunity to undertake a research project in thissubject area.
TheLeeds Clinical Immunology and Allergy unit is a large internationallyrecognised centre of excellence with a strong commitment to clinical research.The multidisciplinary team presently care for over 500 adult patients withprimary immunodeficiencies and autoinflammatory disorders.
Thepost is for a duration of 1 year.

Main duties of the jobKnowledge,Skills and Experience Required
Thecandidate should have prior experience in General Medicine. Prior experience inClinical immunology and Allergy is desirable but not essential.
Dutiesof the Post
Thispost will involve 60% clinical and 40% research. The candidate will support theday to day running of the unit including attending outpatient immunology andallergy clinics. The candidate will also provide be expected to supervisechallenge tests and provide support for the day-case unit.
Thispost will provide the opportunity for successful candidates to work in theregional specialist unit for Clinical Immunology and Allergy. The successfulcandidate will gain extensive training in all aspects of the clinicalimmunology and allergy with the main focus of the post being on the managementof primary immunodeficiencies and autoinflammatory disorders. There will be an opportunity to undertake anMD or PhD project.

The Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, based in Beckett Wing at St. Jamess University Hospital, provides clinical and diagnostic immunology services to Leeds, West Yorkshire and beyond. The clinical service is divided into several key areas; primary immunodeficiency, systemic autoimmune and autoinflammatory conditions and allergy.
The unit provides a specialised service for the diagnosis and management of a range of rare primary immunodeficiencies including antibody, complement, phagocyte and cellular deficiencies. In addition, the unit provides a supraregional service for management of adult patients with autoinflammatory disorders.
The allergy service manages a wide range of conditions of varying complexity. There is also an expanding programme for use of biological therapies such as omalizumab in management of patients with severe chronic urticaria. There is a strong commitment to clinical research and the post will involve working as an investigator on clinical trials.

The appointee must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of the application. They should also have 24 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice. Evidence of achievement of CT competencies in medicine (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training or Core Surgical Training). An understanding of data handling, analysis and presentation is preferred.
Personal Attributes
The appointee will have good communication skills, should be well organised and skilled in good time management and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
They should have an understanding of current NHS management and Trusts and be aware of the responsibilities that a specialty doctor post brings.
Clinical Audit
The appointee will be expected to contribute to Audit meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and application of agreed clinical guidelines. This will be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supporting programmed activity (or part of one). It would be expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy).
In the discharge of these responsibilities the appointee will be expected to maintain and update their skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.
