Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a General Surgery Clinical Fellow at ST3+ level for Weston General Hospital, Weston-super-Mare. This two-year fixed-term post supports preparation for formal surgical training and provides strong clinical exposure with supervision.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • GMC registration.
  • Evidence of Foundation training experience.
  • NHS experience.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in surgery.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the delivery of emergency and elective general surgical services
  • Participate in the General Surgery on-call rota (1:9 full-shift pattern, including non-resident night shifts)
  • Support Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathways
  • Participate in elective day‑case surgery (benign Upper GI and colorectal)
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Engage in teaching, audit, and quality improvement activities
  • Maintain high standards of clinical governance and patient safety

Education

Minimum CT2 equivalent surgical experience
Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
Part II MRCS
ATLS
Basic Surgical Skills Course
cCrISP Course
