Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Clinical Educator to lead education and development within the Oncology CSU at St James's University Hospital. You will support mentors, assessors and trainers, driving on-site supervision and Trust-wide CPD activities to improve care quality.

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the Oncology CSU as a Clinical Educator. The Oncology CSU looks after patients with complex oncology/haematology conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The job holder will play a lead role in ensuring the development of clinical staff, both registered and unregistered. The job holder will enable the development of clinical practice mentors, assessors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and Trust-wide continuous professional development activities. The post holder will be responsible for leading clinical education and associated resources in their designated clinical areas. The successful candidate will provide a high standard of education. The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments and implement interventions for improvement. The job holder will support mentors and assessors and ensure clinical professional development for preceptorship and other role developments. They will enhance the quality of care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. The post holder may be line managing a junior clinical educator depending on the clinical service unit. You will be expected to lead the nursing contribution to service development, ensuring the pursuit of excellence in care. The job holder will lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines, audits and research. They will function as a role model for registered and unregistered staff within the clinical area and Trust, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and cross-city working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high-quality, effective and efficient care.

As part of Leeds Cancer Centre, we provide specialist cancer care for patients in a variety of inpatient, day case and outpatient wards and departments. Our specialist teams include medical oncology (chemotherapy), clinical oncology (radiotherapy and brachytherapy), clinical haematology, surgical oncology (thoracic, breast and gynaecology) and specialist palliative care.

What you will bring to the role

You will play an essential role supporting Matrons and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses by facilitating education, training and practice development within Oncology, Clinical Service Unit (CSU), establishing a high standard of education for all registered and unregistered nursing staff. You will be responsible for implementing evidence-based, patient-focused practice and will work within the clinical area, working with staff to facilitate the development of skills in order to integrate education and practice development, thus enhancing quality care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. You will help support our exciting and existing development sessions tailored to all nursing staff grades, which will require you to be organised and motivated. The job holder will have significant experience in a junior leadership role and demonstrate working with a wide range of professionals, including medical, nursing and management colleagues. The job holder will have experience in audit and standard setting and be able to demonstrate lateral thinking, a positive approach to change and service improvement.
