Job summary

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is seeking a Clinical Coder to support the collection and interpretation of patient diagnoses and procedural events using ICD-10 and OPCS 4 across inpatient care within the Trust.

The role focuses on maintaining up-to-date knowledge of clinical coding rules, working with the Clinical Coding Manager to organise workload, mentor team members, and ensure data validation meets national standards, delivering a high quality service to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• The collection and interpretation of descriptions of patient diagnoses and procedural events using ICD-10 and OPCS 4.
• Continued improvement of anatomy and physiology skills and medical terminology to enhance knowledge of the national clinical coding rules and conventions.
• Work with the Clinical Coding Manager/Deputy Clinical Coding Manager to implement day to day organisation of the clinical coding department workload to ensure targets are met and a high quality service is delivered.
• Mentor Clinical Coding Team Members.
• Validate coded data to ensure compliance with national standards.
