Discover a new kind of career in healthcare as a Clinical Assessor

Working in healthcare, and looking for a change? If you are a fully registered medical practitioner, a psychologist, a registered nurse, an occupational therapist, a physiotherapist, or a social worker you could use your skills in a different way as a clinical assessor. At Capita Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme (TPDPS) you will embark on a rewarding career, utilising your core skills as a healthcare professional in an entirely different way.

In January 2020 the Victims' Payments Regulations 2020 (the 2020 Regulations) were published and the Department of Justice (DoJ) was designated to administer the scheme. In 2021, TPDPS opened for applications from those living with permanent physical or psychological injury caused by a Troubles-Related Incident (TRI) and posthumous applications.

The purpose of the scheme is to acknowledge the harm suffered by those injured in the Troubles and promote reconciliation between people in connection with Northern Ireland's troubled past.

As a clinical assessor you will undertake clinical functional assessments for applicants to the Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme to determine the level of permanent disablement caused by a Trouble Related Incident(s) and produce a structured assessment report to the Victims' Payments Board (VPB) decision makers.

Job Description

We're looking for people with the compassion and mental health experience to bring our applicants through the disablement assessment process. We need people with great computer skills, impartiality and strong functional assessment and time management skills.

It's a challenging role and can be quite different from other healthcare professions, and that's why we take your training and development seriously. You'll begin with a 7-week, training programme (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm) with time set aside for self-development learning.

We'll be here to support you, with close mentorship provided as you work on your ongoing development. Everyone starts at £38,500 per annum (pro rata for part-time). We offer a career pathway programme which can increase your salary up to £41,400 plus up to 10% performance incentive.

Overall, you'll have the opportunity to grow your healthcare knowledge, and gain skills and experience which could open new doors for you in the future. Many of our clinical assessors go on to become Operations Managers, Clinical Trainers, Clinical Coaches and Quality Auditors.

If you're looking for a change, including more regular working hours, a competitive salary and a host of other benefits, and are ready to expand your skills and experience, this could be the role for you.

What you'll be doing:
  • Meet face to face both physically and/or virtually and review available medical evidence from applicants to the scheme to determine the permanence of an applicants' condition and their percentage disablement
  • Play a pro-active role in seeking insight and further medical evidence as required from GPs, other healthcare professionals or services to support the applicant's TPDPS application
  • Gather relevant information, where applicable from the applicant and or representative, and analyse and interpret clinical information along with any other supporting evidence.
  • Compile a comprehensive report in a professional and concise manner, including a detailed history, a full justification and conclusion from evidence gathered to support the Victims' Payments Board (VPB) in its decision-making.
Qualifications

What we're looking for:
  • A fully registered medical practitioner such as a psychologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or social worker with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience (4 years for social workers)
  • Fully registered without sanction or conditions of practice with the GMC/NMC/HCPC/NISCC with a valid PIN
  • A valid full driving licence and access to a car
  • A demonstratable background in a Mental Health / Psychiatric speciality
  • Ability to work at pace, set boundaries, manage conversations and keep to timescales
  • Ability to relate to people from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, races, religions and cultures
  • Report writing skills with an ability to deal with a high percentage of work using a laptop and IT systems
  • Strong analytical skills - familiar with MS Office, particularly Excel/Word and PowerPoint
Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete government baseline personnel security standard vetting and a Counter Terrorist Check (CTC). This is the recognised standard for the pre-employment screening of individuals with access to information related to the TPDPS.
