Job summary

Totally Local Company in Stockport is seeking a skilled Climbing Arborist to join our Arbs team. You will undertake arboricultural work to BS 3998 standards and be responsible for tree surveys, hazard identification and quotations.

You’ll climb safely, use appropriate equipment and support on-road operations. The role requires NPTC competencies CS 30/31/38/39, a full clean driving licence, and willingness to drive a range of vehicles.

Qualifications

  • NPTC CS30/31/38/39 essential for the role.
  • Full, clean driving licence required.
  • Chapter 8 Road Traffic Signing knowledge desirable.
  • BS 3998 (2010) arboricultural standards awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake skilled arboricultural operations in line with NPTC and BS 3998 (2010) using safe practices.
  • Climb and work at heights, perform tree surveys, identify hazards and quotations.
  • Drive a variety of vehicles and participate in out-of-hours emergency call-out service.

What does the TLC Arbs team do?

Our Arbs team are highly qualified tree surgeons and arborists. They undertake all areas of tree work including tree inspections, tree felling, root pruning, crown lifting, hedge trimming through to tree planting, formative pruning and section felling.

Key Responsibilities
  • To undertake skilled arboricultural operations in accordance with NPTC requirements and all operational tree work to BS 3998 (2010) using current safe working practices.
  • To undertake maintenance and minor repairs of chainsaws and other related equipment and machinery in accordance with current safety standards.
  • To undertake arboricultural operations on the Highway to comply with all relevant Department of Transport (Chapter 8) Regulations.
  • To maintain equipment and personal safety equipment in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation.
  • To ensure that all equipment is fully inspected prior to operations and that only safe equipment is used.
  • To ensure that the transporting of materials and equipment is undertaken in accordance with current safety standards.
  • To ensure the effective controls of vehicular and pedestrian traffic are implemented and that no work proceeds whilst any unauthorised person remains within the established danger zone.
  • To directly participate in Totally Local Company's out of hours emergency tree call out service.
  • Must hold a full, clean driving licence and be willing to drive various vehicles relating to the tasks being carried out. This may include HGV vehicles.
Skills, knowledge and attributes
  • Competent in the use of all types of mechanical equipment required for this post which includes chain saws, wood chippers, stump grinders, underground cable detection equipment.
  • First Aid Certificate desirable.
  • Chapter 8 Road Traffic Signing.
  • NPTC Competencies CS 30, 31, 38 and 39 are essential
  • Knowledge of best practice relating to arboriculture techniques.
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to arboriculture operations.
  • Ability to remain polite and tactful in pressured situations.
  • Ability to identify tree species, tree associated pathogens, structural defects and hazards.
What you will be doing in this role
  • You’ll be undertaking skilled arboriculture operations in accordance with NPTC requirements and all operational tree work to BS 3998 (2010) using current and safe working practices.
  • You’ll safely climb and work at heights, use your knowledge of arborial legislation, complete detailed tree surveys and quotations, and identify tree species, tree associated pathogens, structural defects & hazards.
  • We’re looking for someone with NPTC Competencies CS 30, 31, 38, 39 and Chapter 8 Road Traffic Signing, a qualified first aider holding a full, clean driving licence (you may be asked to drive a variety of vehicles).
