Job description

Bassetlaw District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and organised Climate Change Officer to help deliver our ambitious environmental agenda. This is an opportunity to play a key role in tackling climate change locally through supporting innovative decarbonisation projects and helping residents make their homes more sustainable.

About the role

Climate action is one of the Council's key priorities as a central theme of our Bassetlaw Vision 2040 plan, and this is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in helping us deliver our environmental ambitions.

As a Climate Change Officer, you will primarily work across a programme of projects that support decarbonisation, sustainability and energy efficiency throughout the district. A significant part of the role will involve leading the day-to-day delivery of a domestic retrofit scheme, helping residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes while reducing carbon emissions and tackling fuel poverty.

Beyond project delivery, you will contribute to the development and implementation of the Council's climate change strategies, action plans and wider environmental initiatives. Working closely with colleagues, residents, contractors, funding bodies and external partners, you will help turn ambitious plans into practical outcomes that make a real difference to local communities.

About you

You will have:

  • A degree or A-levels / equivalent qualifications with relevant experience.
  • A Good working knowledge of climate change, sustainability, carbon reduction and building retrofit.
  • A broad understanding of domestic retrofit and its role in improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and helping to address fuel poverty.
  • Experience using data and analytical skills to provide professional insight and support decision-making.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage large datasets and competing tasks within a complex project.
  • The ability to analyse complex information and communicate it clearly to non-specialists.
  • Strong IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) to a high standard.

Experience of government-funded schemes, retrofit projects or local government project reporting would be advantageous. An understanding of PAS 2035 and a relevant degree-level qualification would also be welcomed but are not essential requirements

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to practical carbon-reduction initiatives, support residents and play an active role in delivering environmental improvements across the district.

If you are confident working with data, contractors, residents and project partners, and are passionate about sustainability and domestic energy efficiency, we would like to hear from you.
