Job description

Here at Kent County Council, we've got big ambitions for our 1.6 million residents. It means that we do some challenging, varied and rewarding work, and we're always looking for ways to improve our services. That's where you come in. Joining the largest county in the UK, you'll help every child and adult on their journey - and continue your own.

As a Client Transport Planner, you'll have an incredibly varied role. You'll make sure that children and adults with Special educational needs have the right transport in place, and lead a team of officers whilst managing day to day operational practices. Our clients attend over 400 different establishments within Kent and beyond and you'll be responsible for arranging the transport services that take them there, from taxis and minibuses to coaches and buses.

While you'll work collaboratively with a range of audiences, you'll also create positive working relationships with our suppliers and clients. Your insights mean that you'll identify any concerns and spot opportunities for improvement.

As part of your daily routine you will:

  • lead a team of officers
  • manage enquiries
  • implement transport arrangements by identifying space on existing services
  • where necessary purchase new services using our unique portal
  • manage contractual agreements
  • carry out admin tasks using bespoke ICT systems
  • or engage with internal and external colleagues to undertake focussed activities

To succeed, you'll be organised, passionate about supporting the people of Kent, and have keen eye for transport. And as a real people person with customer service experience, you'll be confident talking to different people in potentially challenging situations. Plus, you'll be self-motivated, work well in a busy environment and enjoy the freedom of managing your own workload.

In return you'll have access to great rewards via our exclusive schemes and have the opportunity to be part of a range of clubs. You will work 37 hours per week, ranging between 08:00-16:00 and 09:00-17:00 on a rota alongside team members.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Work that works for you and us - let's talk flexibility!

KCC is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the county's working residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and those with caring responsibilities, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves at work.

Please note - if you are interested, please apply soon as possible as the closing date for this advert may be earlier than stated should a number of suitably qualified candidates apply.
