Job summary

Butler Rose Ltd in Aylesbury is seeking a confident Client Accountant to take ownership of an existing client portfolio, overseeing accounting and tax needs and building trusted relationships.

You will manage year-end accounts, VAT and Self Assessment for individuals and directors, while liaising with HMRC and supporting clients with cash flow and budgeting.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in an accountancy practice.
• Experience preparing year-end accounts and tax computations from start to finish.
• Experience with SME and owner‑managed businesses.
• Part-qualified or qualified (ACCA, ACA, AAT or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
• Strong organisational skills; able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients and act as their main point of contact.
• Prepare year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations from start to finish.
• Complete and review Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, directors and sole traders.
• Prepare, review and file VAT returns.
• Provide practical tax, cash flow, payroll and financial guidance to clients.
• Prepare management accounts and assist with budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting.
• Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients.
• Manage client deadlines and workflow through practice management systems.
• Handle company secretarial filings and maintain statutory records.
• Identify opportunities to improve client processes and add value through additional services.

Salary: Up to £38,000 + Benefits

Butler Rose is working alongside a growing Practice firm in their search for a confident and experienced Client Accountant who is ready to take ownership of an existing portfolio of clients.

Youll be a key contact for your clients, overseeing their accounting and tax requirements while building trusted relationships and offering support whenever needed.

The Role:

As Client Accountant, you will be responsible for:

• Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as their main point of contact.
• Preparing year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations from start to finish.
• Completing and reviewing Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, directors and sole traders.
• Preparing, reviewing and filing VAT returns.
• Providing clients with practical advice on tax, cash flow, payroll and day-to-day financial matters.
• Preparing management accounts and assisting with budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting.
• Liaising directly with HMRC on behalf of clients.
• Managing client deadlines and workflow through practice management systems.
• Handling company secretarial filings and maintaining statutory records.
• Identifying opportunities to improve client processes and add value through additional support and services.

About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who:

• Have several years experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Are comfortable taking over and managing a portfolio of clients independently.
• Can confidently communicate with clients and provide practical advice and guidance.
• Have experience preparing year-end accounts and tax computations from start to finish.
• Have worked with SME and owner-managed businesses.
• Are part-qualified or qualified (ACCA, ACA, AAT or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
• Possess strong organisational skills and can manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
