Mossley Town Council

Application for Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer

Hours: 10 hours per week

Salary: £31,024 (pro rata £15.56 per hour)

Closing date: 26 January 2026

Mossley Town Council is seeking to appoint a highly organised and committed Town (Parish) Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer to undertake this key role and be responsible for all day-to-day organisation and management of the Council’s services.

A sound knowledge of local government law and procedures is desirable. The Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification is preferred, or a willingness to attain.

The ideal candidate should have competent organisational, numeracy and computer skills. He or she should be a good communicator and can work independently. Preparing meeting agendas, attending and advising at meetings, taking minutes, overseeing projects, liaising with the councillors and managing the Parish Council’s finances are key tasks.

Working from home, hours of work and working arrangements are flexible within the contracted hours. Attendance at evening meetings will be required.

Mossley Town (Parish) Council was established in 1999 and is located within the boundary of Tameside Metropolitan Borough in Greater Manchester. The parish comprises 3 wards represented by nine elected parish councillors.

The current Precept level is £36,500.

The Town Council does not have office accommodation and the Clerk to the Town Council will be required to work from home.

The successful candidate will be required to use their personal telephone, IT equipment and peripherals for Town Council business.
